It feels like forever since I blogged, I've been so much sewing but its all been for other people/premmie gowns/quilts/wadders. So heres a nice entry back to some selfish sewing - another Tiramisu! Fabric is a cotton t-shirt knit from Spotlight with little clouds printed on it and a ponte waistband. I should have taken some close-ups, the fabrics quite cute. I fiddled a little bit with the fit, its a 40D front and a 45 back plus about 1" added to the bodice length. I had some pulling at the front so it was unpicked and each side moved towards the centre by about 1" on either side so it doesn't cross over as far now. It could still do with some more bodice length, so have added it for next time

I cook a big pot of something on Sunday evenings and have it for lunch at work all week.  A couple of weeks ago I wanted a soup with white beans and kale and lots of lemon, and surprisingly couldn't find a recipe like that, so I had to improvise.  I kept track of my ingredients and process while cooking and it was SO INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS that I had to share the recipe.  I looked forward to lunch all week.  The lemon works really well, and the pesto is an incredible addition.  It also answers one of my perpetual questions:  what to do with pesto that doesn't involve pasta. I am not a food photographer, so it doesn't look as good as it tasted.  You're just going to have to take my word for it.  I promise you won't be disappointed. ... shirt, a dress, maybe a skirt, or quite easily a pair of PJ's!  If it is to be a shirt, would it become a tunic, more of a blouse, or have the trendy kaftan look happening ?!?  Or it this was to be made into a dress, would it be an A-lined, vintage, maxi, baby-doll or a muumuu style ?!? As for pants, the very 'in' harem style, or a more classic tailored look ?!?  Or, dare I even suggest, the new-look onesies style for this fabric ?!? So many choices, but at least I could rule out using this fabric for a summer bikini !?! Why am I actually asking all these questions ???  Well, it appears that I have over 12 metres (around 40 feet) of this fabric living in my stash! And at 145cm (60 inches) wide, I could make make whatever my heart desires ... I could even go into crazy-sewer-mode and whip up some matching family outfits with this amount of fabric ...  And still have enough left over for new curtains or a doona cover!  The possibilities are...

Jess Polo Top I've had the fabric and pattern for this sitting around for nearly a year and finally sewed it up. I cut a sz20 with a 1.5" upper arm adjustment but otherwise the fit is out of the envelope. I'm not really happy with it I have to admit, I'm counting this as a muslin as it doesn't fit quite right - I can see the pulling at the bust, its too short and it needs a forward shoulder adjustment as it keeps tugging itself backwards. I will sew it again, the StyleArc patterns are a bit too expensive to only sew up once and I really do need a couple of nice fitting polo tops! Fabric is a waffle knit from The Fabric Store and the buttons are shell ones. So the good: I think the sizing is pretty good, it fits just like a sz20 RTW polo does and it doesn't worry me that I need to do a couple of adjustments before I'm really happy with the fit. The bad: The placket instructions are awful, I know they are always a bit sparse but this pattern has some illustra...

Although the Selfish Seamstress *purports* to be selfish, she actually sews for other people all the time.  I, dear readers, am truly entirely selfish--to the point where it's actually almost a character flaw.  There are only a very few people for whom I make an exception, and my mom is at the top of the list. You may recall that last year I made her a jacket . This year was a tote bag.  I got the quilted faux suede in a Fabric Mart bundle and was stumped as to what to do with it when it arrived.  It was not my style, but at the same time it is high quality fabric, and with the pre-quilting saved an interfacing step.  It finally dawned on me that purple is my mom's favorite color and that she might like a bag.  Perfect! The bag is made with two rectangular sides and then a long one-piece gusset.  The dimensions below include 1/2 inch seam allowances. Front and back:  16 wide x 14 tall Gusset:  42 long by 6 wide Handles:  5 1/2 wide by 4...
